3D printers appear in GM libraries!

As part of our bid to Arts Council England, we included funding to buy each authority a 3D printer (the Ultimaker 2+ if you really want to know!). They’ve all been delivered now so they’ll be up and running soon.

“Engineered to perform, the Ultimaker 2+ is reliable, efficient, and user-friendly. Thanks to its support of a wide range of materials, it’s suitable for a huge variety of applications, from prototypes to customized tools. It’s a great all-around 3D printer that delivers consistent results.” (Source: Ultimaker web site)

3D printing is still in its infancy – sometimes the simplest thing can go wrong in our experience! But we chose the Ultimaker because it’s reliable and robust. For ideas of things to print take a look at Thingiverse.  Thingiverse is a thriving design community for discovering, making, and sharing 3D printable things.  In the spirit of maintaining an open platform, all designs are encouraged to be licensed under a Creative Commons license, meaning that anyone can use or alter any design.

We’ll be running some basic introductions to this amazing technology soon, so check back on our events to make sure you don’t miss out.
